More than 50 Ayyappa pilgrims feared killed
Kottayam: More than 50 pilgrims returning from Sabarimala after witnessing Makarajyothi darshan were killed after two vehicles met with a mishap at Uppupara near Vandiperiyar in Idukki late Friday night.
Two vehicles including a bus that were involved in the accident rammed into the pilgrim crowd before going down the hill slope accident according to initial reports. The accident resulted in a stampede which is suspected to have increased the death toll.
The official death toll is 46. Rescue operation is currently going on.
